Frequently Asked Questions
G Free was set up to tackle the
disappointing lack of good tasting gluten and wheat free
foods. Its founder, Paula Deacon, herself suffered
from a severe wheat allergy and spent years after
diagnosis researching diets, available options and
finally her own recipes to help fill the gap.
Many years of
experience in food production and food intolerance has
led to G Free's genuine focus on providing solutions to
food allergies. You may find the answers to some
of your own questions below.
Q: I have Coeliac Disease - what ingredients must I avoid?
A: Coeliac sufferers must avoid any foods containing gluten or
those manufactured in factories that also produce gluten
or wheat products because of the real risk of
contamination. Labels must be studied for added
ingredients, especially modified starch which may be
wheat based.
Manufacturers must state
in the ingredients list what grain has been used, but it
is not yet compulsory to add an allergy box with
“contains gluten”, so it is important to read the
ingredients list.
Q: I have Coeliac Disease - are your products suitable for me?
A: Yes, all our products are suitable for coeliacs.
Q. Are your products suitable for people with a wheat
intolerance?
A: Yes. Unlike many producers of gluten free products we
do not use codex wheat starch
Q: Are all your products suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
A: All our products are suitable for vegetarians but not for
vegans.
Q: Do you produce lactose free products?
A:
All our breads and ciabattas are made with soya milk and
are lactose free. Lactose free panttas are available on
request.
Suitable cakes are indicated in
Our Products
page.
Q: Can your
products
be frozen?
A: Our breads can be frozen for up to 3 months, and all
our other products for up to 6 months. If there is any
condensation in the bag (often caused in the
distribution process due to temperature changes) it is
advisable to repackage in freezer bags. It is
always best to defrost them by removing the bag and
leaving at room temperature.
Q: How should I
store
your products?
A:
It is especially important to take note of the shelf
life and store appropriately.
Breads should always be stored in cool, dry conditions
below 20ºC. Don't forget they freeze well,
so can always be sliced into convenient portions. Cakes
should be stored as breads and once open, kept in an air
tight container.
Q: Where can I buy your products?
A: You can buy our products from many health food shops around the
UK
or by
ordering directly from us.
Q: Do I pay more for online ordering?
A: Not at all. We cover the PayPal charges - it is just like using
your credit or debit card at any high street store and
many of our customers find it more convenient than
paying by cheque.
Please
email us if you have any question you’d like
answered, and we’ll get back to you as soon a possible
with your answer.
